# Permanent Bans

The user will be removed from the Discord and will not be able to rejoin the server at all. 

Bans are IP-based, so users coming from the same IP will not be able to join the server either (VPNs bypass this). 

Most bans will purge the user’s messages up to 2 weeks back.

1. Take a screenshot of the content in question.
2. Verify the rule break with one other moderator.&#x20;
   * Ping `@ ❰ Mod team ❱` in `#🌊︲active-situations`&#x20;
   * You may continue without additional input if no one responds within **2 hours**.&#x20;
3. Delete the content in question.
4. Go to `╭🎍・staff-commands` and check the ID with the ["whois" command. ](/moderation-guide/handling-rule-breaks/moderation-commands/whois.md)
5. Use the ["ban" command](/moderation-guide/handling-rule-breaks/moderation-commands/ban.md) to issue a Permanent Ban.
6. Log the ban in `#🪨︲bans` by creating a post following the guidelines.
