# One Chance Policy

This policy is in place for users who have done something that should technically result in a ban, but they may not understand the severity of what they've done. 

This policy will be referred to in several "Common Situations" since banning may not be appropriate, but neither is our normal strike system.

1. Take a screenshot of the content in question.
2. Verify the rule break with one other moderator. 
   1. Ping `@ ❰ Mod team ❱` in `#🍇︲moderation-chat` 
   2. You may continue without additional input if no one responds within **30 minutes**. 
3. Delete the content in question.
4. Go to `╭🎍・staff-commands` and check the ID with the ["whois" command. ](/moderation-guide/handling-rule-breaks/moderation-commands/whois.md)
5. Use the ["mute" command](/moderation-guide/handling-rule-breaks/moderation-commands/mute.md) to issue a 7d Timeout for the following reason:

"You have been muted for (insert what they did here). While this is usually a bannable offense, we understand that some users may not be familiar with Discord's ToS and Guidelines. Please fix the issue and take a minute to review the ToS and Guidelines. You may contact our support bot to have the mute lifted once finished."

Once you've muted the user make sure to check back within 6 hours to make sure the issue is fixed. If it is not, you may proceed with banning them normally.
