# Hate Speech/Hateful Conduct

> **Do not organize, promote, or participate in hate speech or hateful conduct**. It’s unacceptable to attack a person or a community based on attributes such as their race, ethnicity, caste, national origin, sex, gender identity, gender presentation, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, age, serious illness, disabilities, or other protected classifications.

Hate speech for our purposes is defined as “abusive or threatening speech or writing that expresses prejudice on the basis of protected classifications”.

Prejudice: A preconceived, unreasonable idea or feeling, especially a hostile one, with regard to a particular (protected classification).

**Identities that are protected**:

* Race (Biological similarities - Asian, Black, White, etc.) 
* Ethnicity (Cultural expression and identification - Italian, Mexican, African American, etc.) 
* Caste (Hard one to explain, though it will rarely come up) 
* Sex (Biological makeup - Male, Female, Intersex) 
* Gender Identity (Non-binary, Bigender, Cisgender, etc.) 
* Gender Presentation (How they dress or act in relation to their identity) 
* Sexual Orientation (Sexual/Romantic preference - Heterosexual, Homosexual, Bisexual, etc.) 
* Religious Affiliation (Muslim, Christian, etc.) 
* Age 
* Serious Illness 
* Disabilities

**We do not tolerate anything of this nature. Even if it’s meant as a joke or the person participating in the hate speech is part of the group receiving the hate, we do not have any tolerance for it and will ban the user.**
